A Future Filled with Trees: National Tree Week celebrates it’s 50th anniversary

Tomorrow (22 Nov) marks the start of National Tree Week 2025, the UK’s largest annual celebration of trees!

What is National Tree Week?

Now in its 50th year, National Tree Week, from The Tree Council and partners, marks the traditional start of the winter tree planting season. At this time of year, young trees are dormant and so experience the least stress when being placed in their new homes. This gives them the best chance of thriving into maturity, with all the wellbeing and biodiversity benefits they bring.

This years theme is ‘A Future Filled with Trees’, which is particularly relevant following a year of alarming damage to trees including, for example, the ancient Enfield oak, and where convictions were handed down for the destruction of the Sycamore Gap Tree in a ‘seemingly mindless act of vandalism’.

What is the Centre for Forest Protection doing to mark National Tree Week 2025?

To celebrate National Tree Week, we will be sharing exciting updates across our website and social media channels, including highlights from the first biannual CFP Phase 2 meeting, news from our education programme, and much more!

How you can celebrate National Tree Week 2025:

The Tree Council has created lots of resources, from activities for little ones; to advice on choosing the ‘right tree for the right place’. They are available for download through the National Tree Week website. You might even spot some in your local library – around 350 have signed up from across the UK to create literary tree displays.

There are tree planting events big and small taking place all over the country throughout the week – all you need is enthusiasm, warm clothing, and a love for creating new life from the soil.
