CFP attend RHS Green Careers Event

Our team attended the Royal Horticultural Society Green Careers event recently promoting the many interesting careers available in forestry and forestry science.

Louise Gathercole, CFP Coordinator

I travelled to RHS Bridgewater near Manchester last weekend with PhD student (and former CFP intern and research assistant) Phoebe. We had a stand at the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘Green Careers Event’ as part of the outreach and capacity-building remit of the CFP. We had a great day talking to school and university leavers and career changes about the many different careers in forestry and in forestry science.

A woman standing behind a table with a CFP branded cloth and careers leaflets on it.

Although many of those attending were interested in working in the environmental sector, not many of them knew about the wide range of opportunities in our sector and it was great to be able to tell them about jobs in commercial and amenity woodlands, in labs and doing scientific analysis. We were also able to show career changes how they had transferable skills that would be of use in our sector.

We took along information about the MSc courses on offer at Kew, the types of science careers at Forest Research and the jobs available at Forestry England.
